I am returning home from work yesterday at about 5:30pm. I am about 4-5 minutes away. I turn from a side street onto the main road which runs through the middle of the little hamlet town where I live. As I am accelerating forward, there is a loud crash sound. I stop, and walk around to the passenger side of my vehicle. There is damage from the passenger door, up to and including the rear wheel rim.
Along the right side of the road, there is a lane for cars to park. Apparently a teenager decided to pull out just as I was next to his car. After three years without incident to this new car (2004), someone has smashed it.
Once we exchanged insurance information, I had to drive to the collision reporting centre located at the City of Hamilton police station (well out of my way). After waiting an hour, I was finally able to file the collision report. By the time I arrived home, it was nearly 9:00pm. This morning I took my Honda Odyssey to the collision repair shop for examination. In addition to damage to the passenger door, sliding side door, rear wheel rim, and side panel, there was also damage to the inner door post area. They roughly estimated the damage at about $4500.
Now I must wait for the two insurance companies to communicate, before my insurer will waive the deductible and allow use of a temporary replacement vehicle at no cost. The collision repair shop pre-scheduled a date of Dec 3rd to begin work, assuming there is no difficulty with the other insurance company taking responsibility. |
